Wavesfactory Cassette emulates vintage cassette tapes and decks using analysis of audio recorded to real tapes. It offers four tape types with different frequency responses and saturation behavior. Tape, Stability, Extra and Artifacts settings let you adjust the processing, movement and tape imperfections.
The effect can add hiss, frequency-dependent saturation, high-frequency compression, wow, flutter, crosstalk and stereo imbalance. Its four tape formulations change more than the EQ: they also affect compression and tape noise. Wavesfactory demonstrates it on a full mix as well as individual sounds.
Cassette makes sense when the tape formulation itself is part of the sound you want to shape, not just a layer of hiss and wobble. Start with the four tape types, then use the deeper settings to control how much movement and wear the track needs.
