Tape MELLO-FI applies tape-style coloration inspired by Arturia’s Mellotron V. Its preamp controls shape drive, tone and noise, while Wow, Flutter, Wear and Mechanics adjust pitch movement and tape wear. It also offers a tempo-synced Tape Stop, 12 dB low-pass and high-pass filtering, and stereo width control.
Arturia bases its sound and behavior on the tape playback mechanisms associated with the Mellotron. You can use the modulation and wear controls for obvious pitch movement or keep the effect subtler with preamp coloration and filtering. Arturia demonstrates it on keys, pads, vocals and mixes.
Choose Tape MELLO-FI if you want Mellotron-inspired tape movement and wear on an existing sound, not a playable Mellotron instrument. Its tape stop and filter controls make sense when that movement should become part of a transition or texture.
