SketchCassette II processes audio with 12 tape type and quality profiles, age modeling and two saturation models. Separate controls add tape hiss, stereo dropouts, wow and flutter, flanging, and noise-reduction compression. Mix controls for tape filtering and compression let you adjust how much of each process shapes the sound.
Aberrant DSP built the effect around the sound of four-track cassette recorders. The plugin moves from light warble and coloration to more pronounced tape wear and instability. You can adjust the tape artifacts independently when shaping a track or mix.
SketchCassette II suits producers who want to choose which parts of cassette wear to hear, rather than commit to one fixed lo-fi setting. Its separate dropout, hiss and movement controls make sense when the imperfections are part of the arrangement.
